Print Guard spray renders an ink jet print more water resistant, protects from airborne
contamination, and increases light resistance. The coating, which is archival and non-toxic, is
sprayed directly on to the image and then allowed to air dry. Designed to provide a protective
coating to images produced using water based ink jet inks, drawing inks and water colors, Print
Guard is a clear lacquer that, when applied to water soluble images, greatly increases UV
resistance to fading, increases rub resistance, and provides a splash proof water resistance
coat. Print Guard has the added benefit of eliminating ‘bronzing’ or ‘gloss differential’ effects that
are prevalent when using pigment inks on gloss or luster papers. The type of finish produced by
Print Guard spray tends to mimic the base media that it is applied to - gloss or luster papers still
maintain a high gloss finish, where as matte or fine art media absorb Print Guard into the
surface to provide a flat matte finish.
Apart from increased water, rub, and fade resistance, why should inkjet prints be sprayed with
Print Guard? All inkjet media is coated with an ink receptive layer which is designed to rapidly
absorb the water based inks that all photo quality inkjet printers use. This coating naturally
attracts moisture and everyday contaminants that are present in our atmosphere, such as
ozone, methane and tobacco smoke; all chemicals that are known to cause color shift or
accelerate fade in inkjet prints. Print Guard blocks out these contaminants, and helps keep a
print in the same condition as the day it was printed.

equipment. Supplied in 1 liter cans, Print Guard brush on was primarily designed for use on fine
art papers and canvas although it works equally well on most media types. As well as providing
the same level of water protection and increased fade resistance as the spray version, Print
Guard brush on also significantly lifts the color of images produced on uncoated media. Available
in two finishes, gloss and satin.
